Lexington-Fayette Urban County
Human Rights Commission

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 9, 2004

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission is offering parties involved in discrimination and harassment disputes an alternative to the Commission’s complaint investigation process. The Commission now offers a mediation program involving a voluntary process that provides a forum for all parties to discuss disputes and reach an agreement that satisfies all involved.

Mediation is a confidential process where each party speaks on their own behalf and does not require a lawyer. Certified mediators, who are independent of the Commission, conduct joint and private confidential sessions with the parties to reach an agreement that settles the dispute and closes the case with the Commission. The mediation process allows for a more timely closure of cases at less expense to the parties involved.

The Commission is currently referring eligible cases to mediation. For more information on how to participate in the mediation process contact the Commission at 859-252-4931 or 859-252-7057, for the hearing impaired.
