    The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission will host their Ninth Annual Fair Housing Luncheon on Tuesday, April 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  The luncheon will feature Cory Booker, who will speak on empowering urban America and revitalizing communities, including affordable housing issues.  

    Cory Booker is a leading advocate for urban residents and seeks to improve their quality of life through innovative and bold actions.  In 2000, he earned the title “The Savior of Newark” from TIME magazine for bold actions such as living in a motor home in some of the worst drug areas in the city, inspiring residents and businesses to fight against drug dealing and crime.  Currently the Director of Newark Now, a grass roots nonprofit group, Booker continues to use unique methods to tackle the worst problems facing urban areas.

    In addition, the luncheon will include the Second Annual Police Community Relations Award, where the Commission will recognize several local police officers for their outstanding contribution in promoting public safety and crime prevention by working with the community.  The Commission will also present awards to the winners of the Harrison Elementary School Fair Housing and Cultural Diversity Coloring Contest.

    Information regarding various housing programs will be displayed at the Housing Information Station, which will be available to attendees from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
