The inaugural Police Community Relations award will be presented at the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission’s Eighth Annual Fair Housing Luncheon on Tuesday, April 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington. The luncheon is in celebration of April as Fair Housing Month.

The Police Community Relations Award is to honor outstanding police officers in service to the Lexington-Fayette County community. The initiative is part of the Human Rights Commission’s goal to help build productive relationships between law enforcement officers and the community they serve. In addition, the Commission will present awards to students who participate in the Harrison Elementary School Fair Housing Cultural Diversity Program.

The luncheon speaker is Andrew Plepler, Senior Vice President of Housing and Community Initiatives for the Fannie Mae Foundation.

A workshop titled “Do Not Borrow Trouble: Protecting Our Community from Predatory Lending Practices” will precede the luncheon from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Hyatt. A panel of community representatives, lenders and consumer protection advocates will address issues within our community and suggest solutions.

The workshop is free and open to the public but reservations are required. Luncheon tickets are $35.00 per person or $350.00 per table of ten. Contact Tami Reed at 859-252-4931, ext. 10 or via e-mail at [email protected] for reservations or further ticket information.
