The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission announces the appointment of new commissioners Brian J. Berthiaume and Gloria B. Rie.

Mr. Berthiaume is employed with Lexington Habitat for Humanity. Berthiaume earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. During his time at Millsaps, Berthiaume was named Multi-Cultural Affairs Humanitarian of the Year and served as the Habitat for Humanity College President, among many other honors. Berthiaume’s focus is addressing affordable housing issues in the Lexington community and being a voice for the city’s large under 30 population.

Ms. Rie, a 10-year resident of Lexington, has devoted herself to community advocacy. She is the founder of The Humanitarium: Center for Culture & Diversity, treasurer of the Lexington Network, and serves on the boards of the National Conference for Community & Justice, the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center and the Central Kentucky Jewish Federation. Rie was a founding board member of Transformation House and is a recent graduate of the Citizens Police Academy.
