11th Annual Fair Housing Luncheon

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission held its 11th Annual Fair Housing Luncheon on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington. Over 170 people joined the Commission to celebrate April as Fair Housing Month and to hear guest speaker Linda Strite Murnane, Executive Director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights.

Over ten (10) agencies participated in the Housing Information Station, which gives agencies an opportunity to share information about their agency with the luncheon participants.  Participating agencies include: the Center for Women, Children and Families, Community Action Council, LFUCG Division of Community Development, Lexington Fair Housing Council, LFUCG Division of Police Crime Free Multi-Housing Program and the Realtor Community Housing Foundation.

Attendees of the luncheon were addressed by Commission Chair Gloria Rie, Lexington Mayor Teresa Isaac, Krista Mills, Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Kentucky Office, Brad Sweazy Chief Program Officer, Kentucky Housing Corporation, Commission members Jenny Sutton-Amr and Rabbi Marc Kline, Secretary of the Commission.

The highlight of the luncheon was the Harrison Elementary Fair Housing Coloring Contest and the guest speaker, Linda Murnane. Third-grade students from Harrison Elementary School accepted awards for their participation in the fair housing coloring contest as part of a larger Commission program that works to get housing information to the guardians and parents of the students and to expose students to fair housing and diversity information.

Ms. Murnane shared with the audience her experiences as she journeyed to her current position that included her military career in the Air Force judge from enlisted person to Chief Circuit Military Judge, Eastern Circuit, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.  Ms. Murnane introduced present staff members of KCHR who were present for the luncheon and shared with those who attended some the activities that she has engaged in she took over as Executive Director a year ago.

The Commission would like to thank all of our Co-sponsors, housing information station participants and most of all, the attendees to our luncheon.  Thank You!!
